Sordid Lives is "Funniest Sitcom with Edge and Wit"

from TASTITHOUGHTS:

Logo’s Sordid Lives – The Series - takes that crazy white trash, small town , dysfunctional, hypocritical, bible waving, husband shooting, bar drinking, homophobic, gay loving, Tammy Wynette -Drag worshipping movie made in 2000 and brings it to the small screen.
Now I loved the movie! It was so out there funny, exaggerated humor that came so close to the truth that it made you laughed so hard you wanted to pee in your pants. It was that good. Maybe I just have a twisted sense of humor.

The premise of the movie was that it followed the lives of three sisters Sissy, LaVonda and Latrelle and their Drag Queen brother Earl “Brother Boy.” Brother Boy was institutionalized at the local mental institution since his younger years by his mother because of his homosexuality. However, sparked on by his idol, Tammy Wynette, he puts on shows for his fellow patients in her honor. Their mother died accidently when she tripped over the wooden foot of a younger married man she was having an affair with in a cheap motel.

This married man was the husband of the lady that lived next door in the trailer court next to one of the chain smoking sisters, who keeps snapping a rubber band on her wrist every time she has a nicotine craving. But wait there’s more. Olivia Newton John plays a tough talking guitar country singer at the local bar who had befriended the mother of the women. She even has a southern accent. She is no Sandra Dee! Oh and the most conservative of the sisters has a gay actor son who lives in New York who recently starred in an all nude (non-porn) off, off, off Broadway play. That was just a small snippet of the movie.

Back to the series… I have watched three episodes now. To tell you the truth, I was a bit disappointed at first that it started the movie plot over again with a few changes. We get to know the mother now. In the movie we never know her since she already died. She is played by Rue McClanahan (Golden Girls). Most of the original cast members have returned from the movie. New cast members have joined such as Caroline Rhea, Jason Dottley and David Steen.

My disappointment did not last for long. I love these characters and the writing is sharp and funny. Television allows for deeper story arcs and even better comedy. It seems like all the good shows are turning up on cable these days and not on the networks. The only thing sordid about Sordid Lives is you not watching it!

A bit of a correction. Sissy is Peggy's sister and the aunt of LaVonda and Latrelle.

Ty lives in Los Angeles, not NYC.
